Homestead Spring DIY Projects

At Homestead Mag, the arrival of spring means it’s time for household projects and deep cleaning after winter. At Homestead we are in support of any kind of sprucing up, whether you’re taking on a full renovation or simply getting your garden ready for summer.

This weekend we had some DIY fun of our own. This coffee table came from Home Again, a home furnishings store here in Jackson specializing in high end consignment, custom furniture, staging services and interior design. Purchased for $80, the table was a raw, blonde color when we got it, and showed potential.

Our recent infatuation with Pinterest took us to the site for inspiration for paint colors and finishes. We loved the looks of tables with painted legs and stained tops like these:

So we set out to purchase supplies.

We used a pewter-gray blue called Blue Dolphin by Pittsburgh paint, and a walnut stain.

After a full hour with the furniture sander, we used a coat of primer on the legs and followed up with our gray/blue paint. We learned that the stain splattered a lot, so we did stained the top and latticework, re-taped, and applied our second coat of paint afterwards.

The finished coffee table looks excellent, and makes the perfect showcase for our copies of Homestead!
